Solution Step 3 : Small Changes
Steps 1 and 2 focused primarily on the technical and neuroscience aspects, particularly neuroplasticity and the formation of new neural pathways. These 2 steps will solve your most of stammering problem and contribute 90% of our 3 Step Solution Program. Now Step 3 shifts focus to the psychological, lifestyle and environmental factors that may be worsening your stammering. In this step it’s not just about stammering cure, but also about making small changes to realign yourself and your surroundings suitable to your personality type, daily routine and individual lifestyle needs.
Here we have 3 Sections :
1 : Move Your Mouth Clearly
Make sure your mouth is actively moving for every word you speak. During phone calls, you can even exaggerate your mouth movements to improve clarity.
To use the “pencil in the mouth” technique for improving clarity and reducing fumbling, place a pen or pencil horizontally between your teeth, then read aloud or practice tongue twisters, focusing on clear articulation.
A simple exercise
- Get the right tool: Use a thin pen or pencil.
- Position it: Place the pen horizontally between your teeth.
- Speak or read aloud: Practice reading aloud or reciting tongue twisters.
- Focus on clarity: Concentrate on articulating each word as clearly as possible despite the obstruction.
- Repeat and progress: Do this for a few minutes, gradually increasing your speed and volume. Do this with Metronome.
- Feel the difference: Remove the pen from your mouth and speak again, paying attention to the newfound ease and clarity of your words.
2 : Articulate Every Sound
A common issue in everyday speech is dropping the sound of words, specially last letter of word “My Name is Vikas” and consonants like “S” “T” or “D”. Treat each word like it has a beginning and an end with distinct “character” If a word ends in “s,” make sure that “s” is clearly heard. Emphasis and make all sound, by doing this not only improves clarity, but also makes your communication more confident and impactful
3 : Increase Vocal Projection
The voice you hear while speaking travels through your skull and body, so it sounds louder to you than it actually is to others. This often leads to speaking too softly. Practice speaking like as if the person you are talking to is twice as far from you. Trick here is to project your voice 2x more than feels natural, but by using clear and confident energy.
4 : Talk slow
For your speech to sound normal to others, it may feel slower or even abnormal to you. In the initial days, practice regularly with a metronome – this will help you develop a steady pace and align your overall speech with your internal rhythm.
Formula : Move + Emphasis + Loud + Slow
B : Environment Change
Stammering is not just about speech, it’s deeply influenced by our environment, emotions, mental state and day to day experiences and situations.
People, places and situations around us play a significant role in either escalating or improving our stammering. Sometimes, the key to better speech isn’t just about practicing harder, it’s about changing the environment that triggers or reinforces stammering.
These all can be
- Bad Family & Home Environment
- Workplace / Professional Environment
- Stressful or High-Pressure Situations
- Difficult People
Our surroundings can either boost our confidence and composure or responsible for stress and anxiety. Emotions such as fear, anxiety, and self-doubt often trigger stammering.
Check your surroundings – if something is negatively affecting you and feels harmful or stressful, try to step away from it. This could be your home, family, people, career or workplace
OR
If is not possible atleast during this solution program for sometime like 6 months to a year, try spending more time in calmer, quieter places that support your progress. Try this you will see a major progress.
Aim for 100% stress free life in terms of above mentioned 4 points.
In my own case, the biggest factor in my improvement was a change in environment. I’ve reached this stage mainly because of that change.
C : Optimize Life with Personality Type
This is optional, but surprisingly powerful.
Stammering is a neurodevelopmental condition, but its severity and impact also depend on cognitive and psychological factors. It interacts deeply with who you are, how you think, and how you respond to the world. Your personality type can influence whether you tend to rush words, avoid situations, overthink or feel pressure to please others. By recognizing these patterns, you can understand what amplifies your stammer and what strategies best suit your natural style. The goal is not to change your personality but to align your speech journey with it making growth smoother, more natural, and sustainable and adopt strategies that work for you, not against you.
Check your personality type with our below tool in just quick 10–15 minute test. Based on the MBTI 16-personality model articulated to find cognitive and psychological factors that influence your speech and overall communication.
This model represents 16 different personality types based on 8 key factors and combinations like
- Extraverts (E) : May struggle with fast speech in groups → practice pacing.
- Introverts (I) : May struggle with avoidance → practice safe exposure.
- Sensors (S) : Do better with structured, practical techniques.
- Intuitives (N) : Do better with visualization and creative reframing.
- Thinkers (T) : Overanalyze → need emotional awareness.
- Feelers (F) : Over-empathize → need self-compassion.
- Judgers (J) : Thrive with routines.
- Perceivers (P) : Thrive with spontaneous practice.
This section is homework :
- Find Your Personality Type – Use the provided Tool to identify your personality type.
- Explore Personality Traits – Search your type’s positive and negative traits, and see how they connect with your lifestyle, workplace, career, and social circle.
- Identify Triggers – Note down your trigger moments and situations. Understand your reactions and think about steps you can take to respond more effectively.
- Create Strategies – Based on your lifestyle, prepare simple strategies. For example: avoid overreacting, don’t overanalyse and if you are introverted, gradually expand your social interactions and similar many more. You can also refer to our Stammering Life Guide, designed for every stage of life.
- Be Prepared – This preparation will make facing the world easier and more manageable.
- Self-Reflection – Ultimately, you are the best person to analyse and understand yourself. Hence this is self-study.
Lets Conclude
With this section, we have now completed Step 3, the final stage of the 3-Step Program. As mentioned earlier, Steps 1 and 2 address most of the stammering problem in terms of neuroscience perspective, while Step 3 acts as the cherry on the cake, helping you achieve deeper confidence and long-term fluency.
By consistently practicing the techniques, you will begin to notice changes within the first 6 months. Remember, every journey is unique – but on average, most adults experience up to 80% improvement OR up to a level it will not hold you back within 1.5 to 2 years. For children below the age of 12 – 15, progress is often faster (in 1 year) due to profound neuroplasticity, leading to 95% improvement and in some cases, complete recovery.
This program is not just theory – it’s based on my own journey. I started this research in 2019 and today, I’ve overcome stammering by nearly 95%. Similarly, through our internal research group, we have received over 101+ positive success stories.
This platform was completed by the end of 2023, but I waited two years to share it until real results proved its effectiveness. I tracked my own progress, along with that of an internal group, using brain imaging to analyze its impact and Based on my experience, I can confidently say, We’ve found the key.
All the best on your journey. Never let stammering hold you back.
